September 2010 Co-Presidents’ Note

Have you ever noticed how easily young children play together? One walks up to another on a playground, they do a single run down a slide together and suddenly they’re the best of friends. Pretty much all children have one big thing in common, they love to play.  The beauty about our Newcomers Club is that we all have something in common. We’ve recently gone through some major life-changing event and we’ve joined the club with the hope of forging new relationships by doing things we enjoy as individuals, couples, and families.

For 2010-2011, we are thrilled to be serving as your co-presidents. Little did we know when we first met in a Newcomers organized playgroup that we would become fast friends, one day working closely together on the Board of Directors. Without a doubt, we’ve found the more involved we’ve been, the more rewarding the club has been for us.

This year a whopping 14 year-round activity groups are offered. Between the board members and the Activity Coordinators, we have an impressive 42 volunteers. That’s a lot of membersinvested in this club and in having fun! Like any non-profit, we depend upon our volunteers and can’t stress enough how much we appreciate you!

We encourage you to attend our annual Open House on Tuesday, September 28th (7-9pm) and Wednesday, September 29th (9:30-11:30am). It’s a great way to meet all the wonderful volunteers who are coordinating events and refresh your memory on all that the club offers. If that doesn’t entice you, maybe the fact that we’ll have yummy food and entertainment will close the deal! This is an event for prospective members as well as current members so come join us.

Consider our club your playground. We want to make it easy to meet new people, offer activities that you’ll enjoy, and most importantly, we want you to have fun getting to know this wonderfulcommunity. So, if there’s anything you think we’re missing, don’t hesitate to let us know.  We look forward to seeing you at one of our many gatherings!
