Ridgefield Responds to the Earthquake in Haiti

Dear Newcomers Friends,

One of the things that makes Ridgefield such a wonderful place to live is the strong sense of community you find here. Whether it’s bumping into friends at the supermarket or saying hi to people you’ve never met before on Main Street, there are many ways that we respect and support our fellow Ridgefielders every day. We’d like to encourage you to think about doing the same for another community.

Following the recent earthquake in Haiti, some fellow Ridgefielders formed an organization focused on providing aid to one specific area in Haiti, the community of Jacmel. In just over two months since the earthquake, Ridgefield Responds: Hope for Jacmel, Haiti has raised thousands of dollars through local efforts, delivered its first shipment of food to Jacmel within three weeks and recently delivered a second shipment of food. What makes this organization so special is that they are working directly with a local contact in Haiti to be able to provide them exactly what they need.

Many people within Newcomers have asked how we as an organization can help. We feel that supporting this local group is a wonderful way to provide direct aid to the community of Jacmel, Haiti. This is a wonderful opportunity to help us reach outside of our town and make a difference in another part of the world.

Many of you have already donated to relief efforts in Haiti through other channels and that’s wonderful. But if you haven't or would still like to, we’ve set up an area on our website where you can go to donate to Ridgefield Responds. We will be collecting money from the club over the next three months. At the end of June, we’ll make a donation from Newcomers to Ridgefield Responds. Any donation you can provide will be greatly appreciated-Every little bit helps!
