Spring is here so let's get our kids together at the park for a picnic and some fun! Bring your own lunch and blanket - we will bring some outdoor games to play together. Look for us near the gazebo. In case of bad weather on May 18, our rain date will be Friday, May 25 at 11:30 am.

Please join us at our 7th annual Spring Gala. We'll be "Celebrating the Arts" at the beautiful Aldrich Museum with cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and music. A docent-led tour of the current exhibits will be available at 8pm.

While this is our year-end celebration of a fabulous year in Newcomers, we open this event up to non-members as well, so feel free to bring a friend.

Come join the fun as we explore the swamp loop trail and view the spring and summer wildflowers. The trail winds past a swamp, a freshwater stream, pond and deciduous wildlands. Also, there are letterboxes to 'hunt' for on the trail.

Afterwards, you can linger in the museum building that houses Natureplace and the Ecology Resource Lab, where you can learn about nature by exploring hands-on exhibits, as well as the Animal Hall and Native Plants Courtyard.

We will meet at 1 PM in front of the Earthplace Discovery Center building (please note that there is an entrance fee for Discovery Center).

The Foreign Exchange Club offers Newcomers' members a way to connect with others who have experience in the International Community.

If you have recently relocated to the U.S., let our members help you navigate your way into the community. If you’ve lived abroad and are well established here, come and support our newbies. And even if you'd just like to meet new people and are simply interested in other cultures you are more than welcome to join us.

We will alternate between morning coffees and evening cocktails hosted at member homes or at local establishments. There is no fee for this activity. Please RSVP register online if you'd like to attend.

Hiking - Mount Taurus (East Hudson) (26 May 2012)

(Near Cold Spring, NY, approx 1h from Ridgefield)

It's been a while since we did a peak, so for our May hike we'll ascend Mount Taurus on the east side of the Hudson near Cold Spring, NY. We'll be climbing non-stop for the first hour and a half but will be rewarded with some great panoramic views of the Hudson river valley.

Here are some guidelines for the hike:

- This is a strenuous 5.5 mile hike with over 1,400 feet of ascent, including some scrambling over rocks. Please be sure you're in good enough shape to complete this hike!

- The hike will go on regardless of weather.

- Please make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots, bring enough water, food, sunscreen and bug spray for yourself, and bring multiple layers of clothing (including rainproof) in case the weather changes.

- It will be approx 1h of travel each way, and we'll be hiking for approx 4 hours, so count on about 6 hours total.

- Rather than all drive independently we'll meet at Tazza at 8am sharp and organize carpools from there.

- No dogs are allowed on this hike.

- There is a limit of 8 people for this hike. Please RSVP by registering for the event on the http://ridgefieldnewcomers.org website.

Tarrywile is just a few minutes from Ridgefield and is known for its beautiful mansion, park, and hiking trails. It also has a Japanese Children's Garden based on the children's book Where the Wild Things Are!

We are going to meet in the main entrance parking lot and explore the Children's Garden, orchard, and surrounding park together with our tots. Then, we'll have lunch in one of the picnic areas. Please pack a lunch for your children.

The Park & Mansion entrance is 100 yards beyond this turn on the right. Please look for us in the main entrance parking lot.

Hello Friends!

This month, Winetasters and Couples' Night Out are joining forces to close out our Newcomers year with a bang, reprising our very successful year-end party at Sagi, but with a small twist...

For those who are interested in a bit of a formal wine tasting experience, we will begin with a tasting class led by Sagi's own wine director and winner of the Ridgefield "Iron Sommellier" competition, Sabrina Rullo. After the class, we'll open up the room to an "informal tasting" at which the Sagi menu and extensive wine list will be ours for the sampling.

If you're just looking to visit with friends, skip the class and join us at 8. If you want to learn a bit, be there for the 7 o'clock class. Either way, a great time and a great group is guaranteed.

As with last year, everyone will be responsible to cover their own tab, so there is no cost to attend. But look for drink specials on the wines included in the tasting, great appetizers or even get dinner, and kick back in Sagi's private event space upstairs.
